Thanks to At Homes editorial intern, Taylor Bowers, you can have a perfectly pretty small office update on a budget! Three cheers for affordably chic design!
Hello everyone, this is Taylor Bowers, the editorial intern with At Home in Arkansas. For my post on the At Home blog, I wanted to highlight whats most on my mind when decorating: space, color and budget.
On a small college budget, and in a little apartment, it can be hard to decorate any room in a way that looks nice without cluttering up valuable space or breaking the bank. Ive found that decorating sometimes is a slow process done over time, so planning purchases and designs has become important when trying to design a special room.
My next endeavor in my apartment will be a work space for me, and me only. I want a place to write and do homework without having to shuffle through my husbands physics books and biology homework. Keeping in mind my budget, Ive put together my ideal workspace—its bright and colorful, and gives me plenty of work room as well. It also wont take up a lot of space.
1. A simple white desk will keep me from filling up drawers and becoming disorganized. This desk from Target is a great, and affordable at $105.
2. The modern and simple look of this surprisingly comfortable Verner Panton S chair is perfect for a small space and wont leave you sore after sitting for a few hours. Its also only $74 from Amazon.com.
3. I love this floral rug from Urban Outfitters. Its modern and colorful, and at $68, easily affordable.

4. Lighting is important, and this pretty lamp from Pier 1 Imports is beautiful and functional, and only $55.

5. This funky, retro clock is a great way to add some color to a white wall without making the space too distracting. Its from retro online store ModCloth.com, for $60.
6. Its the details that make the room, and this bright, funky wire bowl from Ikea pulls colors from the rug and clock, for $24.
7. In keeping this the retro-modern theme, this little pencil sharpener from Plasticland.com, made to look like an old camera, couldnt be cuter at $14.
