The Internet of Things moves a step closer with open source, ultra-low-power JenNet-IP

Much has been written about the “internet of things.” Right now, not every human being has an IP but in the very near future, low cost smart chips will be added to every device to give it an IP address and everything in one’s life will become part of your private secure network to be monitored and controlled (and hence become smart) via a smartphone, tablet or PC.

Earlier this week, Dutch-based NXP Semiconductors announced its GreenChip, which for the cost of about US$1.00, enables every light bulb to have its own wireless IP address.

Why I Turned Down A Book Contract

So what would you do? Let me tell you about the problem and then you can solve it for me.

I understood the best thing any writer could do was to create a channel to promote their work and extend the readership. I did this pre-Net with a syndicated column and radio show. Now I do it with 8 websites themed around different topics. And I deliver well over a million articles a month and growing. My newsletter (currently morphing into an e-magazine) has almost 15,000 subscribers.

My websites are a source of significant income and I track the ad values and responses very carefully. I know what an ad is worth per click on each of the sites and Ive run enough trials on affiliate marketing to understand the returns there. Ive taken courses with Google and chatted with their optimization folks to get specific site recommendations.

Audacious!

Im a big fan of Stephen Pressfield and his recent book Do The Work makes a great point that I dont think too many folks really understand. And that is you dont start at the beginning, you start at the end.

I note that his earlier book The War of Art makes the same point in a much longer and detailed way. I have both and if youre really interested, go with the War of Art.

I know this may sound counter-intuitive but think of it as going on a trip. You have to know where youre going before you start driving. Its a lot easier to avoid the old you cant get there from here line if you get yourself lined up right in the first place with a destination.

I find way too many writers transitioning to the Net do not consider where they want to wind up before they start their creative work. And frankly they do not as a rule dare to dream large enough.
