who doesn’t love a great sidechair?

Jun 21, 2011 Posted Under: Home Improvement News

Im smitten by these chairs in Conway designer Tami Risingers lake house in Hot Springs.  Theyre based on a design from the legendary designer Frances Elkins, and Tami used them in just the right way: to make a sculptural statement, turning a small sitting area into a focal point. (if youre smitten too, she found them in Little Rock at Bear-Hill Interiors).

Tamis chairs are in good company.I spied them in a recent House Beautiful issue as well! Fresh looks for two very different styles.

99.5% of Social Media Gurus are Clowns?

Jun 21, 2011 Posted Under: Gardening Notes

In interviews for his latest book his latest book, “The Thank You Economy”, Gary Vaynerchuk was quoted as saying that 99.5% of the people that walk around and say they are a social media expert or guru are clowns. Ive thinking about that in context of some interesting data released this past week. Seems the bloom is off the rose at Facebook and both US and Canadian users have decreased as a general trend over the past month. I take perverse pride in knowing Canadians lead the way here just as we led it the rate of adoption per capita, now we lead the withdrawal in real numbers.

But I digress.

And in the context of both Treys post about who do you trust and some writing I did a while ago about experts, even the kinds of questions you ask garden coaches, I bring you a simple way of evaluating a social media guru.

To many people, it seems almost inconceivable that you can sleep through the aural brutality of an alarm clock, yet a small percentage of us can indeed, mask out all but the loudest of sounds without batting an eyelid. For those people, there is now “The Skull”, a Sonic Boom alarm clock on steroids that pumps out 113 db of sound, flashes bright red light from its eye sockets, and strobes bright orange from a strip of flashing lights on the front.

Itchin’ for something new and different instead of the mass produced stuff on the market? Check out ContemporaryLab, an online store dedicated to promoting the very best post-graduate design. All of the products are unique and most are sustainably produced. The online concept was set up by Emma Brocklesby; an undergraduate, who worried about how she and other undergraduates, could work in design if employment opportunities remained scarce. With this in mind, she took the decision to start up her own business. Smart Girl!

Emma says, “I wanted to create an online shop dedicated to promoting post-graduate designers. They are such an important part of the design industry and have the power to create sustainable products to help reduce global warming. Many of ContemporaryLab’s products have been designed with this in mind. The wo

Why Granite Counter Tops Are So Popular

Jun 19, 2011 Posted Under: Home Improvement News

Do you know why everybody seems to love granite counter tops? What you need to understand is that a granite counter top is more than just a place to set down dishes or hold your toothbrush, it is a way to express yourself and design your home. What most people don’t realize is that every piece of granite is different and the reason is because granite is not produced, it is cut from big boulders in order to make smaller pieces of rock which eventually will turn into a granite slab.

One of the main reasons why so many people love granite counter tops is because there are no two that are the same. Think about it, there are no two rocks that are exactly the same so there is no way there will be two granite counter tops that will be the same. What many people like in their home is something unique and different and that is exactly what granite counter tops bring to the table. T Read more…
